Why Should I Prepare?

The first questions that enters most peoples minds when they come across the idea of Bug Out Bags, Evacuations Kits or prepping in general is: Why?

Why prepare? Why is it important to spend money on all of these supplies that you may never need? Because you care about your survival and the safety of your loved ones. In the aftermath of domestic disasters like Hurricane Katrina, the wildfires in California and 911 along with foreign disasters like the tsunami of 2004, the earthquake in Haiti and the nuclear meltdown in Japan the general public is becoming more wary of a disaster hitting close to home. If a disaster were to strike home and you were unable to acquire food or water, the power was out and there was no help in sight how long would you be able to survive? After Hurricane Katrina it is clear that a person cannot solely rely on the government for rescue. Especially in our current economic climate one cannot expect the manpower necessary for a full scale rescue to be available. That being said, a person should be ready to fend for themselves while they wait for help to arrive. In doing so a person not only increases their chances of survival but they also lessen the load on rescue personnel. In a way, preparing not only increases your chance of survival but it also increases the chance of survival for those around you that may be in need.
